Subtitles assume the viewer can hear and translate dialogue. Closed captions (CC) include non-dialogue audio for the same language. SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) combines both — translated dialogue plus speaker IDs, sound effects, and music cues — and is what most streaming platforms now require.
